Susan Farrell

Susan FarrellI live in Rostrevor and have been writing since 2005. I’m not quite sure why I started writing, but have produced a lot of poems, short stories and have begun writing a book. These are mostly about my environment in the Mourne Mountains and my feelings as a woman, social observer and an inhabitant on planet earth. I'm on my third career - none of them related to writing - and have two grown up children and six hens.

My poetry is published regularly in the local press and I was the BBC's Get Writing Writer (Poetry) of the Week in February 2006. I've recorded two stories on the BBC's My Story that were broadcast in May and July 2006. The May broadcast was also published in the Belfast Telegraph. I have written a piece on veils in Northern Ireland that will be included in the publication, Crowning Glory by Mandy Ross UK. I have also contributed to Banbridge Writers' Circle's Home Front Memories Anthology and had poetry published in Fortnight and Speech Therapy.

Earlier this year I completed a poetry mentorship programme with Moyra Donaldson sponsored by the Creative Writers Network in Northern Ireland.

I won the 2010 Dungannon Arts Festival poetry competition and was runner-up in 2009.

I am currently a student on Falmouth University’s MA in Professional Writing.
